Kayaking the Apostle Islands. Three days, Two nights sea kayaking and camping in the Apostle Islands. Trip includes paddling to Oak Island, passing historic shipwrecks, a visit to Raspberry Island lighthouse, Sand Island, sea caves at Swallow Point and Justice Bay, optional hiking. This is a guided trip through Adventures in Perspective. Estimated cost includes rental equipment (kayak, paddle, spray skirt, wet suit, dry bags, etc), required safety course, guide, permits, shuttle, food. We bring our own sleeping bags, tents, and camping gear and we may all share in food preparation (TBD). Meet at Adventures in Perspective, Bayfield WI at 9am, returning 2pm Sunday. We recommend driving to arrive in Bayfield Thursday evening. Food, lodging before and after trip, and gas are TBD, but roughly included in estimate (we will likely pick a campsite or inexpensive motel for Thurs night for anyone interested). Estimated cost: $275. Deposit: $80. Max trip size:10.
We realize this is a bit more expensive than most Rovers weekend trips. If you consider the cost of renting the specialized equipment that most Rovers dont have, plus the safety course required by outfitters (whether you use their guides or not), the estimated cost is reasonable. We also acknowledge that Lake Superior is a large body of water with unpredictable weather (can produce 4-foot waves) and cold water temps, so we feel the assistance of a guide is warranted and a great way to learn for leading future trips.
Trip Coordinators: Laura J. & Deb M.

Ice Skating at Lake of the Isles. Cross street for the skating area is 26th St. and Lake of the Isles Parkway (I think). There is a warming house that looks like a mobile home along the lake shore and lighting. They do have a big bucket there that have skates in it you can use for free if you can find one your size. Very limited! I would suggest bringing your own skates or rent them somewhere else. Skating starts at 7pm or sooner if you wish to show up early. We will go to a coffee shop or bar afterward to warm up. Also, those that have hockey stick should bring them so we can play keep away or just hit the puck around for fun.
