Saturday, December 31     SOCIAL EVENT
New Years Eve Gathering. We're hosting another in a long line of Rovers New Years Eve Parties at our house on Pillsbury. The door opens at 8:00 and closes whenever the last reveler makes it back out into the cold. Unless of course they decide to crash on the library couch, in which case the residents lock the door and go to bed. BYOB plus some food to share. If you have favorite CDs,cassettes, or vinyl, (you know, those black plastic flat plate like things with the small hole in the middle) feel free to bring those also. Please call or email to RSVP or just to say hello. Meet at 8pm (call for address and directions).

We will drive to Ely Tuesday night and stay in a motel there. Wednesday we will get an early start to try to get on the trail before 10am. There is a chance we will not make it to Boot Lake (it’s about an 8-mile trek) and have to move camp on Thursday. There is a chance we will be able to hire a dogsled to bring some people or gear in. This area has a lot of interesting spots to explore. The trip cost will cover dinners only. You will need to provide your own breakfast, lunch, trail snacks, drinks, and transportation. We will be in the BWCAW so all those rule apply. Meet at Roseville REI at 6:30pm, returning 9pm. Estimated cost: $50. Deposit: $25. Max trip size: 8.

MAY 2005

Monday, May 30  MEMORIAL DAY
Urban Rove! A fun way to spend your holiday in the city—and discover some trails off the beaten path. We’ll start at my house (2 blocks from a Wirth Park trailhead) at 10am and hike through Wirth, down around the wooded side of Cedar Lake, connect with Isles, and stop for lunch at Tin Fish at the Lake Calhoun refectory. Once there, you can continue walking the lakes, rollerblade (bring or rent in Uptown), rent a canoe or kayak, go Uptown, just sit and relax—or whatever appeals to you. Then we’ll hike back to my house for a cookout (bring something to grill, to drink, and an item to share—I’ll supply rhubarb crisp and ice cream). Email me to sign up and receive address/directions/details (feel free to join us for only part of the day/activities if you’d like.) Dogs welcome!
