Gear Swap

Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. the semiannual gear swap will take place before, during, and after the regular Tuesday meeting at Como Park.

Twice a year the Rovers host a gear swap at one of their regular Tuesday night meetings. Anyone who has any type of gear that they are no longer using can bring it to the swap and either sell it out right, or make a trade with someone else. The gear is in good shape, and usually the owners have simply chosen to upgrade or no longer have a need for that particular piece of equipment. It is a great way to get your hands on some gear if you just want to try it out without having to make a huge investment in brand new equipment. And as always, it’s a lot of fun.

Adopt-A-Highway — Highway Cleanup

The next highway cleanup will be in Fall 2010. Check back for exact date!

Adopt-A-Highway is a public service program for volunteers to pick up litter along Minnesota’s highways, making the state cleaner and more welcoming to all who travel here. This area is maintained twice a year by Rovers. Our adopted "highway" is very rural, and runs along and through peaceful Elm Creek Park Preserve, in Dayton and Champlin.

Bring hiking boots, gloves, fanny pack, and water bottle. Rovers provides orange vests and garbage bags. Pizza lunch provided afterward.

Extravaganza (Spring and Fall)

September 24–26 at Wild River State Park

Want a glimpse of what it's like to be on a Rovers trip? This event takes place twice a year and will enable everyone and anyone to try various activities as well as partake in our Saturday night dinner at the campfire. Activities include hiking, biking, rock climbing, paddling, delicious food, and an option of camping overnight. All levels from beginners to advanced are welcome.

Volunteers are needed to organize activities, cook meals, and clean up afterward.

Think Green: In order to reduce the amount of waste, please bring your own plate and utensils to use for dinner. If you have extra, please bring them along in case somebody forgets theirs.

Limited number of people due to campsite size. Reservations a must—this trip fills quickly. Cost: $15 for both days (includes Saturday night dinner, overnight camping, and Sunday breakfast), or $8 for Saturday only (includes Saturday night dinner). A check for $15 or $8 is required to reserve your spot. There is no cost and no need to register if you only come for the days' activities.

This event requires many volunteers to coordinate meals, trips, and registration. To volunteer or if you have any other questions, contact Greg L.• 952 914-0791 or John G.  • 651 274-7124
