Beginner Series — Sea Kayaking

The Rovers Sea Kayaking Beginners Series has been set up to allow paddlers to develop their paddling skills while progressing through four paddling experiences:

Part 1: Day-Long Sea Kayaking Instruction. Sea kayak safety training and beginners paddle strokes introduction Location: Bush Lake, SW MPLS. | details |

Part 2: Introduction to Sea Kayaking (beginner safety instruction). Kayak equipment: the kayak and paddle, safety gear including PFD, paddle float, bilge pump, sponge, appropriate clothing, dry bags (dry clothes and food), water bottle. | details |

Part 3: Paddling on a larger local lake. Paddling on a larger local lake (practice skills, potential larger waves, boat traffic and wakes). | details |

Part 4: Paddling the Lake Superior north shore coastline (paddling on the cold waters of Lake Superior, potential larger wind and waves and the ability and willingness to accept the risk of paddling in this exciting, but potentially dangerous large lake environment). | details |

Part 5: Undertaking an Apostle Island Crossing paddle (3 above plus leaving the coast line and becoming more exposed to potential weather changes, larger wind and waves). | details |

Each trip builds on the skills of the previous trip. Evidence of appropriate paddling ability and equipment will be required for the following trips. You will have to provide evidence you have taken a sea kayaking safety class or demonstrate your ability prior to signing up for the Lake Superior North Shore Coastline paddle and the Apostle Island Crossing paddle.

Please respond as soon as possible for the Lake Superior North Shore Coastline paddle and the Apostle Island Crossing paddle, because we will be reserving a guide and boats (for those who do not have a boat).
